Google Leads The Way In Promoting Home Solar Power

There are companies and then there is Google.
Google is known as an organization that is at the forefront of technology, and it is commendable that they are also striving to be at the forefront of promoting green energy at the consumer level. Among large companies, they are aggressively promoting micro projects for distributed energy.

They have set up a $280-million solar power fund to help homeowners finance rooftop installations. They made an agreement with SolarCity, a company based in San Mateo, California that installs roof-top solar panels to promote these activities in the sunny state.

'Gujarat to start generating 100 MW solar power in 6 months'

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi said that the state will start generating 100-MW solar energy in the next six months.

Modi said this at the inauguration of the phase-five MW-of total 10 MW solar power plant, set up by Azure Power at Khadoda village in Sabarkantha district, around 120 kms from Ahmedabad.
He said that Gujarat is already on the way to become a global hub in renewable energy sector and would also become a global capital of solar power energy.

Save Environment and Money by using Renewable Energy System

Not so long ago, the general view was that renewable energy was either far too expensive an option for householders, or an idealistic dream adopted by modem day hippies. Times and opinions change; possibly the high cost of fossil fuels, not only in financial, but also environmental terms, has had some impact on how seriously renewable energy is now perceived.

These days renewable energy is a realistic and viable energy choice.
Many people wonder whether there is anything they can do to help the environment, and if they can, whether it is financially affordable. Surprisingly, there is an amazing array of renewable energy systems available for homeowners to adopt.

India Renewable Energy Hub

India Favored Destination for Renewable Energy Investments

Investment in Indian Renewable energy could  result in 15-20 percent returns depending on the state you look at and the type of assets you are buying according to a survey done by KPMG.

India is the third most favored destination globally for investments in the renewable energy sector and will also be a major source of new entrants into the sector, behind the US and China, according to a survey released Wednesday by global consulting firm KPMG.

India's solar power capacity to surge

If all goes according to plan, India's solar power capacity will grow six-fold to touch 300 MW by the end of this year, even as several enthusiastic states are commissioning solar power plants. Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra are among states where solar projects are set to be commissioned in the latter half of 2011.

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), the nodal agency to purchase solar power from independent producers, had last October signed MoUs with 16 developers to set up 84 MW capacity solar projects under the migration scheme to Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).

Tips on How to Make a Solar Panel

Making a solar panel at home can be a lot of fun.

1) Get some copper strips. Cut them and clean them.

2) Place a small strip of the copper on an electric burner (this experiment cannot be done on a gas burner as exposing the copper to fire will not work).

General Facts About Solar Energy Systems

  • Solar Energy is better for the environment than traditional forms of energy.
  • Solar energy has many uses such as electricity production and heating of water through photovoltaic cells and directly for drying clothes.
  • Solar energy can also be used to heat swimming pools, power cars, for attic fans, calculators and other small appliances. It produces lighting for indoors or outdoors.
  • You can even cook food with solar energy.
