Save Environment and Money by using Renewable Energy System

Not so long ago, the general view was that renewable energy was either far too expensive an option for householders, or an idealistic dream adopted by modem day hippies. Times and opinions change; possibly the high cost of fossil fuels, not only in financial, but also environmental terms, has had some impact on how seriously renewable energy is now perceived.

These days renewable energy is a realistic and viable energy choice.
Many people wonder whether there is anything they can do to help the environment, and if they can, whether it is financially affordable. Surprisingly, there is an amazing array of renewable energy systems available for homeowners to adopt.

Well-known renewable energy sources include tidal and wave energy machines that harness the power of the oceans, wind turbines that can be used in coastal areas, mountaintops, and in your own back yard (providing it is big enough), and solar power, which can be harnessed though solar panels. Many people are still not aware that these same forms of generating energy, albeit smaller versions are available to homeowners.

There are many choices available for homeowners who would prefer to use renewable energy. Among the options are:

- Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels generate electricity from the sun’s energy. These solar panels are suitable for many homes, as they only require daylight rather than direct sunlight. A home with a south, southeast or southwest roof that is shade free would be suitable for a solar technology system.

- Solar thermal panels are different to PV panels as they collect the sun’s energy and use it to heat water. The panels are mounted alongside conventional boilers. Solar energy can generate up to 65% of a household’s electricity and reduce carbon emissions by over a ton.

- Biomass systems burn wood (pellets, chips and logs) to power heating systems and boilers. Homeowners can use wood burners or stoves as a biomass appliance to heat a room, if a whole system is not a viable option.

- Micro combined heat and power (CHP) systems replace the conventional boiler system. The system burns gas to heat water, and produce electricity at the same time.

- Geothermal heat pumps, which are also known as ground source heat pumps, draw heat from the ground. They are able to extract the heat using pipes buried in the soil. This system warms the water in radiators and homeowners can use it in under floor heating systems.

As you can see, there’s a lot of options when it comes to renewable energy for homeowners – far more than there were even a couple of decades ago. If you are concerned with the environment, the ever-increasing costs of energy or want to be able to provide your own energy that would not depend on any power company, then you should definitely consider investing in one of these systems.

  1. good source of information, renewable system will become the major source of electricity in near future. I think building a energy system like solar panel or wind turbine helps to to save electricity at home
