Dubai will host its first summit on ‘green transport and logistics’
next year to provide a platform for discussions on the sector and
achieve a sustainable transport network.
The Green Aviation Logistics Group, an agency of the Dubai Department
of Economic Development (DED), and the Foreign Investment Office will
host the two-day Green Transportation and Logistics Summit (GTLS) on
February 23-24, 2011.The summit for the green logistics supply chain in
the Middle East aims to provide transportation, logistics and supply
chain professionals the opportunity to learn about
environmental-friendly processes and technologies.
“This event reinforces the importance of the logistics sector to
drive economic development in Dubai. As one of the fastest growing
sectors, it is imperative that green technologies are initiated and
sustained for an environmentally sustainable logistics sector,” said
Sami Al Qamzi, Director General, DED.
The summit will focus on finding technologies that can be implemented
to measure and reduce carbon footprint, save energy, comply with
environmental regulations, environmentally manage suppliers and partners
and achieve a sustainable transport network.
“Logistics is a key driver for the Dubai and the Middle East economy,
and it is important to incorporate green technologies to compete on a
global scale...The environmental impact of supply chain logistics is
integral to the growth of our industry,” said David Harris, Logistics
Sector Development Director, Foreign Investment Office.
